Fishing Barnstable Harbor’s Tidal Flats

Fishing the sandbars of Barnstable Harbor is at times, more like fishing in the Florida Keys than fishing Cape Cod. Bass can be found swimming in less than two feet of water on most days. The ocean over the flats takes on a greenish hue under the summertime sun. The water often heats up to near eighty degrees. This is not your typical Northeast fishing environment!

This area of Cape Cod is at times a breathtaking and surreal environment. It is hands down one of the most serene places to wet a line in the New England.

Barnstable Harbor is located at the southernmost point of the Gulf of Maine. The strong currents and windswept ocean have, over the centuries, deposited large amounts of sand and sediment off the coast of Barnstable. The result is large expanses of sand bars which at low tide, stretch for miles into Cape Cod Bay.

The flats off Barnstable are divided by the Barnstable Harbor channel. The channel ranges in depth from 15-40 feet depending on the location. Barnstable Harbor itself is Cape Cod’s most extensive and largest estuary. Marshland covers acres upon acres. Numerous tributaries and creeks empty into Barnstable Harbor. Saints Shock Colts To Win Superbowl

The New Orleans Saints used a 14 point fourth quarter to defeat the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 on Sunday to win their first Superbowl in franchise history. Drew Brees broke open a tight game midway through the final quarter with his touchdown pass to Jeremy Shockey, and Tracy Porter scored on a 74 yard interception return as the Colts were driving on the next series to secure the victory. Brees was named Superbowl MVP on the basis of his 288 yard, 2 touchdown, 0 interception performance. He completed 32 passes in the game, tying New England’s Tom Brady for the all time record in that category.

After enthusiasts had come in early on the favored Colts, a good deal of buyback on the Saints had pushed the line to -4′ and the New Orleans backers were enriched by their team’s outright victory. The underdog has now covered three straight Superbowls and taken the money in five of the last seven games. The 48 points scored stayed well under the posted total of 57, which was the highest over/under number in Superbowl history.

Things To Consider When Traveling In Europe

All too often people make a common mistake when they do traveling in Europe. They figure that since their time there is short, they want to make the most of it by getting to as many countries as possible. This is particularly true for first time visitors because they are afraid they may never get another chance to return. With that thought they try to make the most of it but seeing a lot. But that is flawed thinking. If you try to do too much, you run the risk of not actually being able to enjoy any of it, let alone all of it. Most experienced visitors to Europe will recommend that you stay positive in your belief that you will in fact get back again someday.

If you believe that, it makes it easier to put together a more realistic itinerary that you can enjoy. You are best to not attempt to squeeze in 8 cities in 10 days. Krumping in Los Angeles

Krumping is a street dance that evolved out of Clowning, another form of movement more tailored towards entertaining children. In Compton, California in 1992 Thomas Johnson and his dancers, the Hip Hop Clowns, painted their faces and performed hip hop comedic dances for children’s birthday parties and community events. When a few of the dancers in Hip Hop Clowns began dancing in very raw and expressive ways, they left the group and created their own style which is now called krumping.

When Ceasare Willis and Jo’Artis Ratti left the Hip Hop Clowns during the early 2000′s, they began krumping in public in Los Angeles. For them, the street dance was a way to escape from gang life and let go of destructive feelings in a non-violent manner. Instead of resolving disagreements with violence, they would have a Battle in krumping. They came up with the word krump as a backronym for Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise. Clearly Willis and Ratti meant for Krumping to be about expression, much like Gospel singers improvise melodies and lyrics.  Read more...

Scott Tucker Joins Roster of HPD Greats

When three-time national driving champion Scott Tucker decided to chase an international sports car title, he put a great deal of effort into building a winning team. Along with long-time Level 5 Motorsports Team Manager David Stone and co-driver Christophe Bouchut, Tucker added sports car great Joao Barbosa and went to work on building the cars.

At the top of the list for technical partners was Honda Performance Development. Honda Performance Development, Inc. (HPD) is Honda’s racing company within North America and is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Founded in 1993, HPD is the technical operations center for Honda’s high-performance racing programs.

The team wasted no time getting the new Honda-powered LMP2 racecar into Victory Lane at the famed 12-Hours of Sebring, the season’s opening event. The success didn’t end there. Highlighted by a podium finish at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, the team was making headlines around the globe.

But never content, Tucker decided to change chassis mid-year and keep building around the ultra-successful HPD program.

The team is now utilizing the HPD ARX-01g, Honda’s bespoke chassis and engine combination, in the remaining 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup rounds at Road Atlanta and Zhuhai, China.  Read more...

Jamaica at the Olympics

The Olympic Games have taken place for over 2000 years and Jamaica has participated in the Olympic Games since 1948, when it was still an official British colony. In 1960, two years before full independence from British rule took place; Jamaican athletes took part in the Summer Olympic Games as a part of the West Indies Federation Team. Jamaica has taken part in the Winter Olympic Games since 1988, with the introduction of the Jamaican National Bobsled Team.

1948 to 1988

During the first forty years of Jamaica’s involvement with the Summer Olympic Games, athletes brought home a total of four gold medals, nine silver medals and six bronze medals. All but one of these medals were in the athletics category, more specifically, running. The men’s 400 meter has always been the dominant event for Jamaican athletes, as well as the men’s 4×400 meter relay, men’s 100, 200, and 800 meter events. The Jamaican women’s 200 meter event began emerging as a leading race in 1980, winning three bronze medals and a silver medal right up until 1988. The one non-running event that earned Jamaica medal was the men’s one kilometre trial in 1980, where David Weller was awarded a bronze medal. Of course the 1988 Olympics were the most famous for the Jamaicans because of the addition of the persevering National Bobsled Team. They did not place during the bobsled events, but the team was a fan favourite around the world.  Read more...
